Discipline in a long distance race

Hebrews 12: 1-8

The Race (The Christian Life)

1)    The lines are drawn for us (The Christian Life)

2)    To make it in this world today, we need Faith

3)    To make it in these times, we need Faith in God

Read Hebrews 11: 32-39

a)    This race is not for the swift

b)    This battle is not for the strong

c)    This is an endurance race

d)    To win this race, you gotta finish it!

Some common problems we encounter in this race:

1)    Some run out of gas

2)    Some have engine trouble

A few things about this race:

a)    This race must be run with perseverance

b)    This race must be run by throwing off every thing that entangles

c)    This race must be run with the awareness that our greatest danger is in temptation to give up and give into sin

Here's the secret: Let us fix our eyes on JESUS!

a)    Just as the runner must focus on the finish line, we must focus on the goal and object of our faith in Jesus...

b)    He (Jesus) is the author and finisher of our Faith--meaning our Faith starts with Him and is completed in Him; He's both the start and finish of our race of Faith...

Dear Jesus, I'm sorry, please forgive me for the wrong things I've done, please come into my heart and save me, make me a new person in you.  Help me to now live the life you want me to live and give me strength to do it.  Thank you Lord for forgiving me and for cleansing me and coming into my heart and saving me, I will live for you, I will serve you and I will tell others about you.
